One can clearly see why GridCentric, a company that combines virtualization and grid computing technologies to provide simple, efficient and flexible cluster application development and deployment, is a perfect fit to be one of Rogers Ventures portfolio companies. They deliver on-demand virtual clusters by distributing virtual machines to hundreds of processors in sub-second time. Virtual clusters transform your computer farm into a high-performance, private cloud.

One fateful day at a University of Toronto research showcase, where the minds behind GridCentric were demonstrating the technology they had developed, they met Mike Lee, Vice President, New Ventures, of Rogers Ventures; and yes, it was mutual like and respect at first sight, as Mike saw the potential of the very exciting technology in the very exciting space of cloud computing.

Even though they have been asked this question many times, one can feel GridCentric’s passion in conveying how their technology is one of the next big things to hit the cloud. GridCentric has developed the software infrastructure that will power cloud services, whether they are for grid computing, public cloud, or even private clouds in the Enterprise. Cloud computing is all about the speed and ease with which people are able to access new computing resources. They’ve developed some very powerful technology that cranks the speed and easy dial to 11.

The GridCentric team has adapted well to operating within an industry that is constantly in flux. Canada is making great strides to become a nation of innovation and as entrepreneurs within the technology innovation economy, GridCentric has benefited immensely from the advice, assistance, and creativity of many people and organizations that operate in Canada. While there are still unique hurdles for entrepreneurs, this groundswell of support has made it a more cooperative environment for a startup to navigate through and achieve success, and GridCentric is feeling the positive result of this support.

The relationship between GridCentric and Rogers Ventures has been fruitful. Rogers Ventures has provided them with the resource needed to grow from having a seed technology to a having an attractive and compelling product ready to go to market. As Tim Smith, one of GridCentric’s founders highlights, “The personalities that inhabit VentureBase have been instrumental in helping GridCentric develop their business plan and product offerings.”
